V. RAMESH

Born in Andhra Pradesh in 1958 and graduated in Fine Arts from M.S. University, Baroda and Post Graduation in Fine Arts from the same university.

He received the Junior Fellowship from the Department of Culture from 1990-93, the Sanskriti Award in 1993 and a Senior Fellowship, from the Department of Culture in 1995-97. V.Ramesh was the first practicing artist to be invited to have a solo exhibition at the National Gallery Of Modern Art, Bangalore in March 2014.

Ramesh has had solo exhibitions from 1990 onwards at Centre of Contemporary Art, New Delhi, Sakshi Gallery, Bangalore, 1991, Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai 1993,1997 & 1998, Gallery Threshold, 1998, 2005, 2007, 2008 & 2011-12, Apparao Galleries, Chennai,1998. Nazar Art Gallery, Baroda, 2000, Remembrances of Voices Past, NGMA, Bangalore 2014 and at Katzen Arts Center , American University Museum , Washington 2015. Amongst the group exhibitions, he has shown at the 2nd Biennial at Havana, Cuba,1982. 2nd Biennial of Art, Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal,1988 and Revisiting Intuitive Logic, Davos, 2011. He has been teaching at the Department of Fine Arts, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, since 1985.

Describing his works, the artist says, “I probe the idea of the ephemeral as well as the evolving aspects of the self quoting lines from medieval devotional poetry as well as metaphorical imagery, I allude to the impermanence of the human body. My work also hints at areas of faith, devotion and transcendence, but it articulates these ideas in an oblique manner, using voices from poetry and imagery culled from mythology.”
